When you are just starting out on your internet marketing journey.  I call it a journey because that is the way building an on line business unfolds in front of you.

It is a planning and implementing, step by step, by stumble by stumble, get up and regroup and replan.  Straighten out your route, learn new things and forge forward.

There are a lot of things to learn about internet marketing and one of the biggies list building.  Which should come shortly after you have mastered a long list of technical know how stuff.

For the novice marketer that does not have a full compliment of prospects and customers to sell to,  there is the ever so important email marketing list to be built.   Blogging is one of way doing it but my message today is about List Building With Giveaways.

These are events that are put together by a few marketing individuals and partnerships where they lobby for contributers to supply  free stuff to be given away to anyone who is willing to supply a name and email address.  Hence your source for opt ins to your list.

The giveway event is promoted thru JV Parternships that you can join as a contributer.   You supply ebooks, or reports or software that you have either developed yourself or garnered from a variety of sources such as Butterfly Reports .

There is a whole bunch of things  you need to do to put together a giveaway and to join an event but that is for another time.   In the meantime you can pick up a book from JT Martin called JV Givaways Unleased .  Excellent book to learn how to do giveaways.

Of course there is also Alex Jeffreys’ list building course that is available for free at: http://someoneneedsit.com .   This course also covers a lot about giveaways.

I have been getting fairly reasonable results from giveaways since I started doing them a few weeks ago.  When one of my giveaway events is currently open I usually get 10 to 20 opt ins per day during the event cycle.

    Hey Norm,

Thanks for the great info on giveaways!

10-20 subscribers a day is pretty awesome. I have upgraded on my first event that starts tomorrow, so will hope to get a similar opt-in rate :-)

    Talk real soon

    Hi Norm,
Great post, I am very interested to use free give aways to help build my list,as I have heard great things about them and even Alex Jeffrey’s says they’re a great way to build a list, but what has stoped me from using this method at the moment is that I understand that to use these free give away sites you have to participate in the promotiom of the site and they give you a few emails to send to your mailing list to get visitors to the site. If you don’t have a list or much of a list how do you participate? My idea was to build a lst of a few hundred and then participate. I’m interested in any information you can give me norm, I’m very interested in the free give aways and free give away sites.

    Hey Michael
    Thanks for stopping by.
Here is what I did. I went ahead and upgraded on the events. You have two opportunities to upgrade. The first one will cost you anywhere from 20 to 30 bucks. The second one will cost anywhere from 7 to 17 bucks.
The upgrade gives you better position in the event and your gift will get some traffice and you will get some opt ins.
If you don’t upgrade, you can get better position by promotion. But as you say if you don’t already have a big list your promotion probably won’t get you much help in regards to gift position.

Now as far as the requirement to promote. You can satisfy this requirement to the event by just placing ads for the event on any of your free advertising places. Safelists, ad swaps or any other advertising site you have available. I use Orange Leads a lot and it seems to satisfy the event promotion requirement. As far as I know I have not been downgraded for lack of promoting.

The reason I like Orange Leads is because it is free, you can upgrade if you want to but it is not necessary. There two places you can place a daily ad. And unlike safelists you do not get tons of emails from the other members of Orange Leads like you do from safelists.

If you are interested in Orange Leads and are not already a member I would appreciate if you would join under my affiliate. I hope you don’t take offense at that offer, I don’t mean to take advantage of this blog post reply to pimp my stuff. Let me know if you want to affiliate link.

    I hope this has helped.
    Good to hear from you.
